So, my highlights in radio…well, being a Director of the original winning XFM bid in London is well up there. In addition to that, being Chairman of Atlantic 252 in its heyday, when it was the largest commercial station in the UK broadcasting was also a very proud moment. Then roaming the world to find an international radio deal when I was at Capital Radio was a great experience, focusing on Germany and Australia. Thankfully, I also got to dabble in TV during my time at RTL in Luxembourg, where I was the project leader of our involvement in Channel 5 here when the license was first awarded. I will never forget the moment standing by the fax machine with Greg Dyke etc when the letter arrived from the old ITC telling us that we had won the license. Happy days! I’m very proud to know that Channel 5 is now very much an established part of the UK media landscape and has itself gone through an interesting update of its brand.
I’ve lived in London now since 1997. I absolutely love this city. The diversity of cultures, tastes, and places to see and visit definitely makes this the greatest city in the World for me! After 10 years living here I’m still exploring so many new areas in Battersea and that’s just where I live!!!
As for music tastes, I love all types of music. My favourite station is our Classic Rock brand…I’m not kidding…I love it…and now that I have my Pure Highway in my car, so I can listen to DAB whenever I’m on the road anywhere in the UK!!! My choices range from U2 to Tom Petty to Steely Dan to Springsteen etc…I could go on and on, so I’ll stop there. And I even have a secret liking for some Jazz/Soul stuff (but don’t tell Clive!)…Miles Davis, Otis Redding for starters, but now I’ve really blown my credibility as far as my musical tastes are concerned!!!
Are my tastes typical of a Golden Square listener?
Should our new brand be more London focussed or less?
