Everyone focuses on the power of the image especially the moving image. But we are all in the AUDIO business and for me the Sonic indentity rules every day.
Who can forget the Intel sonic or even the Mcdonalds ‘Justin’ sonic. Both of these are quite new arrivals on the scene. For me one of the most successful recent sonic brands is that of the TOM TOM, (another silly brand name? ) or as I prefer to call it, the marriage saver. Journeys with the spouse have always been a combination of stress and frustration. Why don’t we men like asking for directions, I know I don’
t, and its as if TOM TOM knew this also. :-)
Here is a brief (possible) explanation for why they called their product TOM TOM from their website:
Why “TomTom”?
Some experts say that language may have begun with drumming, and simple drums like the double-headed Native American tom-tom and the talking drums of Africa, have always been used for signaling, imitating the pitch patterns of language and transmitting messages over many miles. Just like us. And like TomTom products, the tom-tom is simple but versatile, reliable and fun to use.
My TOM TOM has the voice of C3PO telling me the way which my wife Linda finds really annoying! Hey I am the child of the Star Wars generation. A brief glimpse at the TOM TOM website shows that users can now record and upload their own voices, a short of UG-SATNAV I suppose.
How about us uploading Presenter voices with plugs for the new brand from the Autumn? Thoughts?
Anyway back to Sonics –
How is our new brand going to sound and stand out from the crowd
- How will you feel when you HEAR the word?
- What, if any, will its Sonic trigger be?
- What tone of voice should the V/O or V/O’s take?
- What sound should our website generate?
So many questions
Any comments?
Clive
