Podcasting or time shifting - by Tony Moorey
July 15th, 2008
In her recent post, Tania hinted at the questions, what is radio and what do we have to do to beat the competition?
Personally I listen to more of it now than at any point before, but a big chunk of this is non-live. There’s our podcasts and some BBC shows on the recently updated iPlayer, [...]

Do you remember when you used to only be able to call stations or write a letter. Now you can email or text or blog - and a huge proportion of normal phone calls, of course, come from mobiles - and often get answered by the presenter. It’s brought radio even closer than it already was.
We [...]

So. The ever-helpful runners descended today with puzzled looks on their faces, clutching a white trolley. Their mission - to clear the way for a desk for Clive on the first floor - the home of those who make the programming. Clive is their new boss - and he wants to be close to them. [...]

Tuesday this week saw the release of the BBC’s Annual Report. Much of the press reporting has concentrated on the amounts various executives are being paid, and whether or not they’ve received a bonus. That’s all very well, but is probably missing the somewhat bigger picture. The report also gives a “state of the nation” [...]

New stats out show more of us are listening to our favourite radio stations on the internet. In the last six months another 2.5 million have tuned in via the web, bringing the total number to 14.5million, with Golden Square still the most listened to commercial station on-line in the UK. It’s perhaps not a [...]
[Read More]Will digital level the playing field – by Adrian Fitch
July 3rd, 2008
You may have heard that we currently lead the radio industry in digital listening. In our last set of Rajar results one quarter (24.9%) of all our listening was via a digital platform (DAB, online or digital TV). This compares to an industry average of only 18% with commercial radio averaging 18.4% and the BBC [...]

This week in Glasgow is the annual Radio Festival. It’s where the BBC & Commercial Industry gather to discuss the ‘state of the radio nation’ (and drinks lots of beer).
For the 2008 event TIML was asked to contribute to the panel called ‘Future of Music Radio’.
For completion of the Golden Square project this week we [...]
The Game of the Name - by Glyn Britton
July 2nd, 2008
Hello, I’m Glyn. I work at Albion, a marketing agency who are working with TIML Golden Square to help develop and launch your new brand.
Yes, we’re the “overpaid marketing tossers” who get “paid to sit around” and “dream up ridiculous ideas”.
(Actually, we try hard not to be tossers, pay ourselves too much, sit around, or [...]

Right, time for a spot quiz… What do Starburst & Snickers have in common? “They’re both sweets?!” Alright smart a*se, that’s not what I was getting at. Let’s try again… What do Cif, Starbust, Snickers & Cosignia have in common? (Ok, maybe the last one isn’t a good example).
That’s correct - they’ve all had successful [...]
