Dig Out Your Soul – Abbey Road Studios by Bobby Harrison

Now its not often you get the chance to visit a place that holds as much musical history as Abbey Road Studios, so let’s just say I was very, very, very excited about being asked to come along for the evening to watch some of the new jingles for the new station being recorded!

Let’s just say when you walk into Studio 2 you could feel the magic in the air not only does it still look exactly the same as all the old pictures, the instruments, mics and recording equipment are all original to the day the Beatles recorded in the 60s! The fact that we were even allowed to touch the old pianos was an honour and a privilege!

What made it even better was the fact that Geoff was knocking out Beatles classics the whole time I was there! And for that Geoff, I salute you! (you have inspired me to actually get off my arse and learn piano properly!)  Sitting at the pianos that Lennon and McCartney recorded on gave me goose bumps and hopefully one day I will get to record at Abbey Road with my own band (it’s not actually as expensive as you would think!).

To be able to experience this will stay with me for the rest of my life and I have to say it was the best pre-gig experience of my life! I turned up late for soundcheck for my gig last night.

Band: “Where the f#@k have you been? You’re late!”

Me: “Just Abbey Road, in Studio 2, playing on the same piano that the Lennon and McCartney used! As you do!”

Oh yes!!!

A great looking building, tons of musical history, equipment and instruments that have been used by loads of greats and an atmosphere that oozes excitment and rock & roll. That’s what we have here at Golden Square so what better place than Abbey Road to choose to record new station music.

I was also lucky enough to go along to Abbey Road last night. It’s one of the most amazing places I’ve ever been to. I remember watching the making of Oasis’ Be Here Now in 1997 and never thought I’d get the chance to actually be there where one of my favourite bands recorded. Even aside from the obvious Beatles history, being stood in a room where Land of Hope And Glory was recorded was pretty special.

I only heard a little of what some of the music is going to sound like but what I heard sounded brilliant and I’m sure by recording there and using that legendary equipment, it’ll give the recordings that extra little something.

And it got me thinking – we have a great building full of history here and hopefully our visitors and guests do and will continue to, walk around One Golden Square with the same feelings of excitment and facination as I had last night in those famous studios.

    New jingles! That’s buzz.

New jingles from Abbey Road? Now that’s taking the new brand further.

I wonder if it makes any difference once it hits the airwaves – it’ll sound real, yes! – but this sounds exciting. Who knows? Your jinlges might go down in musical history, too…

So if the New Jingles are being recorded then the New Name must have been decided !

    Any clues?

I’ve heard a rumour it’s going to be “Spanner”, but I can’t tell you where…
