New Talent – New Role by Clive Dickens

Every time I float any potential new talent names, I notice that whoever I am speaking to purses their lips and nods sagely as if to say: ‘That would be a brave decision, Clive. Brave’. I guess it’s ‘cos I’m not really scared off from recruiting the srvices of presenters who might have had a few ups and downs in their career.  That is, if the talent of those folk is worth the extra effort.  Not that we are rushing into a whole tranche of major changes to the line-up, by the way, but there are always chances to use new people.  We are always in Beta.

What is important is to make sure that whenever we get new people on board or introduce new, more demanding programme properties, we make sure we give them the production resource they warrant.  That’s why I’m creating a new Executive Producer post to help me look after some of the new presentation talent we’ll bring in as the brand evolves over the next few months and years.

There are few better qualified to do this new gig than Roque, who has put up with Christian for around seven years now, and been a huge part of that award-winning success story.  Roque will take up his new duties in the next few weeks.  He will not, contrary to what Christian suggests on his post on OGS, wear a suit and tie, but he will at last have a lie in.

Roque, thanks for all you’ve done over the years here on breakfast, and before, and good luck in the new role.

We’ll be making announcements shortly on the new arrangements for Christian’s show to make sure that we can take it even further to audience success.

Well it’s better to see someone who knows the station inside out to oversee things, and this is precisely what they have done. Roque, good luck! :)

Just make sure Iain Lee gets more shows – Sat and Sun nights should suffice (for now)!!!

I hope you treat the presenters and staff, who in your estimation are not compatible with the new brand, fairly.

    Tranche, talent, Beta.

That to me sums up what is so wrong with the people running the UK radio industry nowadays!

Focus groups, presentations, branding, the list goes on and on.

Like Marty I do hope that you treat presenters and staff not ‘compatible’ (yuck, another stupid word!) fairly. Radio 2 fiddled with things just like you intend doing, they lost me for most of the day. Oh well there’s some great well programmed internet radio stations out there and they get more and more of my listening hours!
