Rock Trivias by Kirsty Donoghue

After almost 8 years at Virgin Radio, it’s safe to say I’ve been to a million and one zillion of these famous Rock Trivias. In fact, they are so much part of my life, like cleaning my teeth or going for a doctors check-up that I’ve renamed the day after Wednesday, Rock-Trivia-Day. Friday follows of cours.
When I say famous I mean in ‘meedja’ circles. They are not quite as famous as the likes of David Beckham or David Guest, but trust me, they are famous and clients beg for them and ask for them by name. That proves it!
So, it’s safe to say I’m a Rock Trivia Veteran and I have witnessed many a messy and raucous night because when you get the Virgin Radio Rock Trivia Veterans together with a bunch of clients who are really ‘up for it’, then it’s recipe for rock n roll antics and partying hard are on the cards. Well we are there to show them a good time after all.
If I had a few hours of your time I could tell you some very interesting, funny and frankly weird stories that have unfolded in the ‘Zoo’ area - thanks Paul, for explaining that it’s not the animal kind. However, being the ultimate professional that I am, what happens on Rock Trivia Tour stays on Rock Trivia Tour.
Ok, go on, you’ve twisted my arm… Well there was this one time when we challenged a client to a strange drinking game because he claimed he could drink absolutely anything and our free beer just wasn’t strong enough for him. So to help him prove just how manly he was, I mixed together a mean concoction of practically anything and everything I could find in our cupboards. So in true Tom Cruise stylee, he got a fine and ‘yummy’ mixture of rum, vodka, a dash of Worcester sauce, coffee granules and to put hairs on his chest, a huge helping of Scots Porridge Oats (soaked in beer for a few mins to aid fermentation). Yes he drank it down and loved every minute of it. He followed this with a packet of Lemsip powder (don’t try this at home kids!) which gave him a roaring headache…and then strangely, instantly cured it - it’s good stuff! We did get a thank you email from him in the morning, well I say the morning, when he finally made it to work at 2.30pm in the afternoon.
Anyway, back to Paul’s Blog and the Microsoft Rock Trivia. I have to say this has been one of my most memorable ones to date, and to get great feedback and insight from a client who’s experienced one of these evenings is fantastic. Without you all putting your fingers in your gob and making a gagging noise, it’s hugely rewarding and I’m sure I speak for all the Rock Trivia Veterans who lovingly and regularly give up their free time to make these evenings special and memorable for our clients. Don’t feel too sorry for us though, we of course do have lots of fun, which is why we do them.
I know I said what happens on Rock Trivia Tour stays on Rock Trivia Tour but for those of you who have never been to one, I think it’s only fair to give you a small glimpse into our strange world. Meet Stu, our lovely Microsoft client who just didn’t want the night to end and partied on long after the music trivia ended.
So, now we’ve demistified these Rock Trivia evenings thanks to Paul’s blog and hopefully mine, shall I expect to see you at the next one? Remember they happen the day after Wednesday, Rock-Trivia-Day. We are always on the look out for more pizza handlers, glass replenishers, trivia markers and masters of mischief and fun - apply within!

I’ve hosted a few of the Rock Trivia nights since I started at Virgin and I can say, hand on heart, the Microsoft guys and girls were my favourites. They enjoyed every minute of it and were up for anything… Including running around Golden Square in Fruit & Veg costumes!
Bring on the next one…

Read that as Meat & Veg costumes first time. I believe that’s something different.
