Heather Small of M People fame (or should that be shame) sung a song a few years ago in which she asked ‘what have you done today to make you feel proud?’ Thankfully here at Absolute Radio we’re less likely to play that and U2′s Pride will more often get a spin. However, what does it mean to be proud?
My dictionary says that the word pride illustrates that you feel that you are the best in one’s group, class or society. It also says that you can gain pleasure or satisfaction from somebody else’s actions that you feel reflect well on yourself. It then finally reminds me that a ‘Pride’ is also the name for a group of lions. A multifunctional word indeed, and a word that has been on my mind over the last few weeks, particularly recently.
Having just arrived at Golden Square as Christian’s new Executive Producer, I’ve felt proud to join such a great team. We all know what Christian is capable of and it’s already been a great adventure working together over the last few weeks. No matter what Christian says about him on air or for that matter off it, Brian has been an ABSOLUTE legend since I arrived. Without him, I may well have been out of the newly painted black doors already. With VBH now onboard too, and me no longer being the newest member of the team, the future is very exciting.
So picking up that dictionary again, I can now see why that word has been in my head. I’ve no doubt that the Christian O’Connell Breakfast Show can be the best. Being part of the team that helps it go to air, means that the success that we can achieve will reflect well on all of us. Finally, if you saw Christian’s performance on Loose Women last week, you’ll realise where the group of lions came into it too.
He tamed them. He made me proud to be a man.
