At Absolute Radio – we believe that the radio has a lot going for it, especially in this time where everyone is having to tie the purse strings a little tighter. Why – because it’s FREE.
Yes, FREE!
No 79p downloads, no credit card information to hand out online, no broadband PC access needed to find new songs. In fact, many of the things that MP3 players or online stores aspire to do in the future, ie: personal & entertaining content, radio is already doing – and has been doing for many years, but now with the Absolute Radio difference.
If you listen to Absolute Radio at work during our No Repeat Guarantee – then you’ll be listening (on average – as we will play the full length version of songs) to twelve songs an hour – that’s at least 90 different songs each work day.
Although – to be fair – you might own a few of those songs already, you just haven’t listened to them in years – and we give you the chance to discover them all over again. Which brings up another advantage to radio, the chances are you have one already – without the cost of buying a new MP3 player. Even if you don’t, you’re most likely reading this blog online, which means you have access to the absoluteradio.co.uk streaming player. It’s not just the radio, it also has studio webcams, music reviews, information, forums – a whole community that you don’t get with an MP3 player – and exclusive competitions (even if you don’t like what you win, you can always eBay it and pocket the cash, surely no-one does that). There you go – yet another way radio can save you money :-)
Maybe you could use that money to buy a DAB Digital Radio – which has music of MP3 quality sound, but is cheaper than most decent MP3 players – our Absolute Radio branded Pure Highway can be bought from Amazon for just £55 and it can used in car to upgrade your FM radio. But if you don’t want to shell out, then the chances are you have an AM and FM radio, or can get one for less than a tenner and still enjoy Absolute Radio. If you’ve upgraded to digital TV, we’re also on Freeview, Sky, and all the other digital TV networks. Why buy a new home stereo system when you can give your television speakers a workout for free?
Even if you already own many songs that we play on Absolute Radio, then you hear them the way we play them. Our team spend hours making sure that we have the most interesting, entertaining and varied playlists. We also help the audience discover new music – which means that we play tracks from forthcoming albums and the cutting edge of the best new music that we think they will enjoy.
We know our audience – and we play the real music that they love – and if you don’t, then we let you tell us know… through public playlist sessions (and you won’t find many radio stations doing that). We also have live concerts like Absolute Coldplay, Kooks Zoo sessions, and other live music like Keane at the 100 club to help you discover that you won’t find anywhere else.
You certainly can’t get up to date news, traffic, travel and sports information on your MP3 player – because by the time you downloaded it – it would be out of date. Absolute Radio isn’t just real music, news, sports, traffic and travel – we also have real personalities like Christian O Connell, Geoff Loyd, Russ Williams, Iain Lee, Ben Jones, Nick Jackson and more… there’s even our security guard Doug! (who seems to getting a little too familiar if you take a look at the clip above) We’re much more than an MP3 playlist can ever be. We have personality! Interactivity! Mobility ! And even exclamation marks!!!!!
And did I mention – all for free! But it’s not free to produce. On top of the investment made in buying Absolute Radio, we have a continued commitment to invest: in marketing and promoting the brand, content & station, employing the best people, putting on the best events like our broadcast from Absolute Abbey Road and V Festival and using the most up to date digital methods we can to make sure we sound as good as possible. So – not free for us, but remember – free for the audience!
But if you have an MP3 player, and you’re feeling left out – you can still download podcasts. For only 79p. No, we’re kidding. That’s free as well.
Clive
