Recognition by Lee Price

“Don’t worry when you are not recognised, but strive to be worthy of recognition.”

… said the great Abraham Lincoln many, many years ago. Probably over 143 years ago, because he’s been dead for over 143 years.

I agree with the man. Recognition isn’t everything, but it doesn’t hurt to be recognised every now and again. And, of course, you won’t be recognised at all if you’re not worthy in the first place. (Or if – like me – you go out at night wearing one of those “joke” glasses-nose-and-tache get-ups).

But if “Abe” was hoping this useful little ditty would retain its usefulness to every man, woman and child all the way into the 21st Century, then he clearly wasn’t foreseeing that there would be a fine bunch of talented people in 2008 working at a radio station called “Absolute Radio“, nor that there would be a new event in the same year, called “The NDL Radio Academy Promotions & Marketing Awards“.

Why have I come to this conclusion?

Well, it’s because Absolute Radio has been nominated for at the above Awards (“The NDL’s”?), in the “Best On-Air Imaging Promotion on UK Radio” category; alongside Kiss, Trent FM and Beacon Radio. (More information and a full list of nominees can be found here.

This is the first award nomination we’ve received since our re-birth last week as Absolute Radio.

Hopefully this won’t surprise many, but I don’t usually pay much attention when it comes to who’s got their hands on whose gong at London’s Heaven Nightclub.

But on Tuesday, I shall be watching with interest.

Wish us luck!

Lee

What does “on-air imaging promotion” mean? I’m not embarrassed to be ignorant.
