COMMENTS ON THE TOP 10

Wayne Farmer
got to be long hot summer i was 16 got my first job working on painting the glass on factory roofs to stop the sun shining on the workers with the money i got i saved up and got my first vespa scooter. you could do a lot more with your money then

Debbie Appleby
English Rose, a classic & underated song. Not played enough!

Gina Rayment
please can you play ‘English Rose’ as it is the most beautiful song Mr Weller has ever written, in my opinion, :-) this song reminds me of my turbulent youth, and I have followed PW for the last 30 yrs, and have been to many of his brilliant gigs. please come back to Bridlington Spa Mr Weller !!!

Justin Brocklebank

That’s Entertainment – great lyrics!

Jeremy Oliver
Butterfly Collector – Ace song!!!! Play it for me, my wife Sue, the family & all our friends…..TA!

Brendan Keeney

My favourite Weller song would have to be Changingman because I went to him see a few years ago and he strode out and this was the first song on the night and it blew everyone away , it was a good song anyway but it was incredible live. And its probably from his best solo album Stanley Road .

Mick Clee
my favourite paul weller song as got to be broken stones from the stanley road album besides being a great song when weller does it live he tends to connect with his fans live through this song, always a favourite live.

Brian Laker
It’s got to be ‘Eton Rifles’ one of the best Jam songs ever. I never saw The Jam live, but recently saw Mr.Weller play live in London, and he played this song, well the hairs on the back of my neck stood up and a shiver went through me.

Stuart Goodburn

It has to be The Eton Rifles. He’s doing it again on the latest tour with as much venom as back in The Jam days – and the relevance still rings true. Long Live The Woking Wonder!

Terence O Neill

down in the tube station great vivid lyrics, you can believe you are really there!

Nigel Foster
My all time favourite song from Paul’s Jam, Style Council and solo catalogue will always be; Down in the Tube Station at Midnight. It is such an evocative song and for me, as a teenager at the time, it really captured the malevolent atmosphere that pervaded late 1970s Britain. Even now all these years later when I am ‘Down in the Tube Station’ and I hear a train approaching through the tunnel I cannot help but think of this song.

Simon Jeynes

It has to be Down in the tube station at midnight. I remember hearing it as a spotty 14 year old thinking i have not heard anything like this before. In truth the story it tells is quiet scary. How did he manage to get such a great song when nothing rhymes? All this from someone who was more or less a teenager himself when he wrote it.

Paul Leigh
Wildwood Well played but still never loses its edge A classic

Neil Inglis
I’ve seen Paul play 25+ times and he has had so so many great hits, but for me sunflowers is one of his best, not often played but truely a classic Weller tune, long live the modfather

Sharon Bates
Sunflower is my favourite Weller song. It’s holds special memories for me and the words are so poignant. [' I miss you so'] – I love it!!!

Marion Smith
Favourite Weller song? Far too many to chose from but my long standing favourite is Sunflower. I love the structure of the tune with its highs and lows and the underlying riff. But also, as with all Mr Wellers’ songs the lyrics are amazing, “I run my fingers through your hair, hair like a wheatfield I run through”, the man is a poet. I could go on as I have loved all things Weller for most of my adult life, 30 years (almost as old as the man himself :) ). Maz

Karen Taylor
fav song is an obvious choice but a great one, town called malice, my maiden name was Weller and I come from Shere in Surrey which is only about 10 miles away from Woking, who knows could be a distant cousin of mine.

Andy Rentell
You do something – Just pips some of the jams greatest, great song to sing loud in the car

Sarah Smith
Please please please you gotta play “You do something to me” It was played at my wedding & it brings a huge smile to my face whenever I hear it. Thank you

Petra Baxter
“You do something to me” was played as our first dance at our wedding last year which was the best day of our lives.

Samantha White
‘You do something to me’ is a very very sexy song. Weller doesnt get enough credit for his ballads or his beautiful voice.

Elaine Radburn
Oh, surely it has to be ‘You do something to me’. What a beautiful song. The man just has a way with words. My night is made when I go to a Weller concert and he plays it. I never tire of hearing it; it still gives me goose bumps.

OTHER HONARARY MENTIONS OF FINE WELLER SONGS

Ulli Nganga
Brushed from Heavy Soul… It came out around the time that my daughter Grace was born. The Style Council did some good stuff and he seemed like a nice enough bloke when my girlfriend and I bumped into him and DC Lee in an Indian takeaway on Bayswater Road in 1989/1990 despite the fact that I was smashed. Name dropping aside, this song came out in 1997 and I think that people were ready for him again (the rise of Oean Colour Scene, “Britpop” & Oasis (with whom a certain shared drum sound courtesy of the White siblings didn’t do any harm!) ) On a purely selfish level, having been brought up on The Jam, I was just glad to hear him getting back to playing what I wanted

Kerry Russell
Favorite Weller song, and I’ve given this much thought, is ALL ON A MISTY MORNING from As Is Now. It’s not a perfect song like Wild Wood or You Do Something To Me or That’s Entertainment, but the pure feeling with which it’s sung, the heart and soul and nakedness evident in its conveyance, moves me every time, keeps me coming back to it over and over.

Dez Wilkinson
My Favourite has to be Savages …as the lyrics are powerful and meaningful with a great melody…Thanks Paul …I’ve been following you for a long time now (same age mate !) & a lot of very enjoyable great gigs …

David Salisbury
Lifelong Weller stalker I’m afraid. All time favourite tune – Private Hell from the Setting Sons album. I’ve always loved the fury in that final guitar crescendo

Nigel Hales
After thirty years of watching the Jam, Style Council and Paul Weller very hard to chose one but always loved Tales from the Riverbank when he did a version at Hammersmith Palais and Guildford Civic Hall all those years ago. Still sends shivers and paints a picture

David Horn
Ghosts – The Jam …. from The Gift … what an album Brings back great memories. Absolute classic …. also Sunflower And Town Called Malice

Paul Weller is an awesome composer. At his best in The Jam in my opinion. Best song has to be Down In The Tube Station At Midnight.

Big up also to “The Butterfly Collector” – think it’s B-side to Absolute Beginners. Also, “The Paris Match” – great Style Council song.

Artistically, it’s got to be “That’s Entertainment”, though. Guy’s a genius, really doesn’t get the appreciation.
