The Name Game is Tough

We’ve said it before but the name game is a tough one to play. If I suddenly changed my name from Clive to Paul overnight it would take you a while to adapt to calling me Paul – you would still refer to me as Clive. We’re going through exactly that at the moment, we know that people are aware of Absolute Radio, but some are still calling us Virgin Radio out of habit and some people actually still think they are listening to Virgin Radio. There are reasons for this which this presentation will help explain to you.

But we believe our ears and we believe what our listeners are telling us and the listeners are engaging with Absolute Radio in record numbers. We have 43% more calls and texts to studio than when we were Virgin Radio, time spent online exceeds competitors – over 45 mins for Absolute Radio vs under 20 mins for other commercial radio stations. 300 VIPs sign up every day, 6000 people download podcasts a day and 8000 people listen online a day.

Believe your ears – we have improved our music. We’ve had 30 sessions in 13 weeks, we’ve opened up our playlist meetings, we have less repeats than other commercial stations and we play more tracks than Radio 2.

Here’s a copy of our staff presentation, have a look and see what you think.

Congratulations Clive! It is a pleasure to listen, interact with, and email the station.

At the risk of sounding like a sychophant (polite way of saying ass-kisser I’m told), I think you and your associates and staff have done wonders with the station. The proof is in the numbers.

I noticed the word “international” appears in the presentation. My hope is one day to turn on Absolute Radio in my car or handheld radio in new yawk. It would certainly be easier than having that chip implanted in my skull and less messy.

Please feel free to engage the international listeners in the march to Absolute Radio World Domination (well, I’m ready in any event).
