Some say that Geoff Lloyd was wished into existence by unicorns and aliens 10 years ago when he started working at One Golden Square. He wasn’t, he had parents just like everyone else, but I won’t mention what they did in the hot summer of 1972 that led to his birth in April 1973 – because it gives him weird nightmares.

After winning a Sony award in 1998, he first came to us in early 1999 with Pete Mitchell to take over the weekly evening show and also stand in for Chris Evans. On the breakfast show, not by being ginger (Geoff is more a lovely strawberry blonde). Geoff and Pete took over drive time, took over breakfast and then Pete took off. Geoff then started ‘The Geoff Show’ in the late evening slot with Annabel Port, Nelson Kumah (and produced by Tony Moorey) – which then became the Hometime slot when Absolute Radio re launched (no longer produced by Tony when he became more important than the ‘little people’).

Geoff has risen steadily through the ranks. When he started at One Golden square, he had the seven ’til ten shift, and now he has the five ’til eight shift. Ten whole years, and a progression of two whole hours. Well done Geoff!

Seriously, Geoff is what makes Absolute Radio the station it is. We could talk about his humour, his innovative approach, his amazing interviews with the likes of Paul McCartney, his amazing acting in the ‘Doug’ advert last year – but we need him to get in the studio, and don’t want his head to be too big – his headphones wouldn’t fit properly.

Congratulations Geoff – well done for all the hard work, all the laughs, and here’s to another ten years of Absolute Radio.
