A Couple of Links

James Cridland notes that despite the media world having changed so much even since the millennium:

“The total number of people listening to radio every week (45.5m) is the second highest figure since 2000″

and

“The total number of people listening to radio every week is the second highest figure since 2000.”

Meanwhile a new report covered in Media Guardian (and elsewhere) reports that “Britain’s young people want music more than sex – but for free.”

But even for young listeners like these – this survey was conducted among 15-24s – radio is still the main way to find out about music:

“Radio is still the best medium for hearing about those new bands in the first place at 67%. 63% said they relied on recommendations form friends and music channels like MTV was preferred by 49%.

Newspapers and music mags were rated by 21% and 17%, and blogs just 14%. Surprisingly, YouTube was the most popular site for exploring new music for 38% of those surveyed. MySpace was cited by just 15%, tying with official band sites, Facebook followed at 8% and NME trailed along with Last.fm at just 4%.”

    I’m 20.

    I don’t have a MySpace page.

I use my Last.fm page to keep track of the songs I listen to more often, rather than discover new songs.

I see Facebook as simply a way to connect with people.

I don’t read the NME. (We don’t have it in Manila.)

I check out music blogs, but not as often as before now that work gets in the way.

It is, indeed, still the radio – the many stations I stream online while at work.

    (Sounds too poetic, eh?)
