Absolute Radio To Sell Planet Rock Advertising by Donnach O’Driscoll

planetrock

We wanted to tell you first: alongside our own network of stations Absolute Radio will sell Planet Rock’s airtime and online advertising from 1st April 2009. This means media-buyers will be able to target a compelling national audience of music-passionate, male-focused listeners in a core demographic of 30-54 year olds in one streamlined media-buy from the existing Absolute Radio sales team.

Planet Rock will be establishing its own sponsorship and promotions team to work alongside Absolute Radio’s to specifically sell Planet Rock’s sponsorship and promotions assets. We are also in talks with the Planet Rock team about them renting some empty office space and a studio that we have here at Absolute Radio and will come back to you with more news.

There are some fantastic synergies between our male targeted national brands. Planet Rock is the UK’s largest DAB only station and, with 13 consecutive quarters of Rajar reported audience growth, the fastest growing station in the UK. The station reaches 680,000 listeners every week. The station will, in combination with Absolute Radio, Absolute Classic Rock, and Absolute Xtreme reach to 2.65 Million (Qtr 4 ’08 RAJAR) weekly adult listeners, adding 38% additional adult hours to the Absolute network, taking the combined total hours to 18,612,000 per week. The Absolute Radio and Planet Rock websites combined deliver an average digital audience of 554, 825 unique users and 7.1 million page impressions per month.

Planet Rock was bought by businessman Malcolm Bluemel in June 2008 and has a DJ line up which includes some of the biggest names in Classic Rock; Alice Cooper, Rick Wakeman (Yes), Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath), Fish (Marillion), Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull), Phil Manzaneera (Roxy Music) will now be joined by Scott Gorham of Thin Lizzy who’s first show is broadcast this Friday night at 6pm.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact myself or your line-manager and if you’re not already familiar please tune into Planet Rock, it’s a great listen!

Speaking of Absolute Classic Rock, what happens to that? Won’t that be a conflict of interest of sorts?

How long before this arrangement evolves into “Absolute Planet Rock” rather than 2 clasic rock stations???

Hi there all well i listen to Absolute Radio all the time now every day at work and college and i love the station Great playlist suits me lets hope they stick to the no repet garantee and give us all a wide rage of music unlike other stations who prefer to rotate there play list song after song.

Also make a point of listening to Planet Rock too from time to time that too is just a great listen really what my point is i think its a dam shame that these 2 stations are not on FM Across the uk why the hell should we put up with bludy radio 3 and the bbc mince i mean DAB YOU STIL cant get in most places just think these to stations ether Absolute or PR would be idel for a UK FM Licnce.

Any one else agree with me on this.

Good luck to both Absolute and PR over the next few months

    Kind Regards
    Davie

WE LISTEN to planet rock!! But dont like absolute as much. AND WE ARE WOMEN in our 20s who know lots of OTHER WOMEN who listen….
If you take your “male-focused listeners in a core demographic of 30-54 year old” from RAJAR figures, then i think that RAJAR may just be asking the WRONG PEOPLE TO FILL IN the RAJAR FORMS – unless it means that we wimin are “MALE FOCUSED” and LOVE OUR BAD BOYS OF ROCK????

We also listen to Pandora on Radio CAroline and Get Ready to Rock Radio, and SHE ROCKS – what a fab music mix! hey planet rock – you should have her on air.
    love to all S & J & A
