Programming Feed w/ending 13th March by Roque Segade-Vieito

Just like the BBC’s legendary Duty Log – Absolute Radio has it’s very own forum for listeners to tell us what they think about the station. Each week we plow through these emails and reply to them in the hope that we can at least explain why we do what we do. Human nature being what it is, people are far more likely to complain than they are to praise us but regardless, we thought it might be nice to share some of their thoughts with you. What’s nice to see is how much they care about their radio station.

On moving the 80’s hour…

Hey! Just wanted to ask why the 80’s hour has been moved to 12pm? I loved listening to it at work at 10am! I work from 9-12 & it was the best hour whilst working. By 12:00 I’m done & have to make my way home so would end up missing it. I LOVE my 80’s music & I’m always telling people about my beloved 80’s hour! I was so gutted when I heard Russ say it had been moved,my heart sank! If there is any way it can be moved back (which I have a small feeling it probably won’t be able to as I’m only one person…!) that would be fantastic! Cheers Absolute

Repetitious ads…

You may not repeat your music but the adverts are becoming so annoying we (this is an office complaint) are contemplating turning off the radio. One in particular has become like finger nails over glass – its on too much and is an assault on the ears….please stop it. Its not just us, we were calling a customer not five minutes ago and the same advert was playing in the background. Our customer apologised and gestured to her colleague to either switch the radio off or she would put her foot through it….says it all, don’t ruin your radio station chasing the ££££ from the advertising revenue. Think about how adverts sound in the office environment, noise, distortion and repetition is not pleasant….that advert is appalling .

And despite the no-repeat guarantee – we get complaints from people who think our music it too repetitive…

Dear Programming people.
I am absolutely fed up with the very small number of tracks that keep getting repeated day after day, it seems that you have a small box of about twenty tracks and that they are repeated daily (it seems alot more playings per day than that). Can you extend the number of tracks chosen so that I dont keep thinking “I’m sure I heard that a few moments ago!”

Same time same place next week then?

Roque

The music is a little repetitive, but nowhere near as bad as it used to be. Even songs that I like are getting a bit overplayed, which is annoying because it ruins them. Fleet Foxes, absolutely love that, but i’m starting to tune to a different station when I hear you guys play it now because I don’t want to you to overkill it. The worst one is that awful tune by The Killers I think, ‘Human’. Bloody awful and it seems to be on Absolute all the time!

I know you don’t repeat the same song between 10-5pm on any given day. However, some tunes seem to be played once between 10-5pm EVERY day, so the no-repeat workday is itself a repeat! Not to mention the overplay of these tunes before and after 10-5pm.

Sorry to be moaning though, overall the music is so much better since the new station launched. And, in fact, I would say that even in the past few days there has been another slight tweak of the playlist and the music is sounding even better now, although I may be imagining the ‘tweak’!

I really think Absolute is settling in as a station really well, definitely found your feet now and generally is sounding very, very good I reckon.

Surely, you will have to get rid of those irritating voice-overs though? They really stand out as s**t, especially amongst the good music! I think a new breakfast presenter would be an improvement and a bit more personality & humour from Nick Jackson wouldn’t go amiss either, but that’s just my preferences.

Nice one guys, keep it up please! Sounding pretty good and getting better all the time I reckon. Still a little way to go though so keep at it please. Basically, thanks for putting a station back on the air that I can listen to though because i’d totally given up on the old station. You’re hard work is really appreciated. Sounding really good for the most part. Cheers for the effort…

Aaagh, annoying spelling mistake in my previous post. The penultimate sentence should begin with ‘your’ and not ‘you’re’. How irritating, I hate that…

    Howyadoin Rocky:

Howabout a feature where you or Clive respond to listener questions/complaints/abuse live on air for say 15 minutes?

Where to put this? I don’t know. Will leave that to you.

You’re the station with big balls (we’re good with subtlety here in new yawk)! Whaddyathink?

I think it would prove popular and get you some good press.
