Tim Shaw Interviewing Beatha by Roque Segade-Vieito

Last week Tim Shaw interviewed Beatha, a survivor of the Rwandan Genocide of 1994.

It’s quite simply the most harrowing interview I’ve ever sat in on.

I was going to stick a clip up for you to have a listen but instead I thought you might like to have a look through the reaction we had from the listeners on Saturday night:

Just wanted to say how much I’m enlightened by the interview on one woman’s experience in the Rwandan genocide. Good on you! Commercial radio risks mediocrity to satisfy ratings and what the execs think the public ‘wants to hear’. Thank god, this “thinking person’s” show is refreshing and intelligent. This interview is incredible! What an amazing woman! Best thing I’ve heard on the radio in years! Sara in Guildford x

These topics are important. They help ground people, helps us to realize how lucky we are over here, however bad we may think it has got. James

God bless you for broadcasting this. Allan

Hi she is an amazing woman. Cannot believe what I am hearing. Truly shocking. I am stunned but also pleased you have done this interview. Karen in Southsea.

Hey Tim, I just want to say thank you for such a great show, it’s really interesting and enlightening. I honestly thought that you wouldn’t be able to pull off such a ‘serious’ show but credit to you – you have really done yourself, Absolute Radio and Rwanda, justice.

I don’t want to listen as it is so upsetting but I can’t help myself. This is what radio is for! Phil the Cabbie

I’ve found this fascinating, heart wrenching and one of the most important interviews I have ever heard on the radio. Thank you

I normally can’t stand Tim Shaw as he has the weirdest sense of humour and I just turn him off BUT he’s been brilliant tonight and shows he is human after all and does have compassion! What a brilliant interview-thanks.

This is the first time I am texting to any radio. Thanks for picking such a story… Alex

Harrowing & devastating what a true inspiration & heroine she is. James in Essex

I think it’s so moving and interesting and I can’t stop listening. I am 17 and I never knew about it even though it’s so significant and horrific. Thank you

I’ve just had the hardest week of the last two years and I feel humbled after listening to your show. I’ll not be feeling sorry for myself after this nice one. Barnes.

Great job. Very glad that a radio station can go off format for such an awakening interview. Not everything in this world is a funny joke. Younger generations need to know the past so it does not repeat itself.
Hi, this lovely woman has put all my petty problems into perspective. I wish her a happy life from now on. Thank u4 a gr8 interview.

The podcast should be up on iTunes, enjoy. The interview will conclude this weekend on Tim Shaw’s Absolution Friday and Saturday 10pm till 1am.
