Happy Birthday Everyone! By Chris Lawson

What a first year. I can’t believe what we have achieved and we certainly have the scars and the smiles to prove it!

Just a big thank you from me to you all, for building a brand to be proud of from scratch and making Absolute Radio a great place to work. And thanks for remaining strong and positive even faced with the challenges of RAJAR, Ofcom, recession and the Exec team at the weekend away.

We’ve dealt with all of that and put on over 100 live sessions, produced 4000 pieces of top quality video and audio content, won four Sony Radio Academy awards, achieved front page news on numerous occasion, had Mr T, The Hoff and The Fonz here to entertain us, and drunk The Coffee House dry. We have also played some great great music, I never expected to hear * and I think our audience are happy.

Six hundred thousand people celebrated our birthday with us on Sunday in Regent Street and I can’t wait to celebrate at our own party tonight.

I hope you like our new blog design, it was inspired by our home (including the wallpaper by Cole and Son) and also searches the web for all the stories about Absolute Radio – good and bad. It was built by Dave Kenny and Dave Briggs and will be the first of a few improvements and new products you see over the next couple of weeks.

Enjoy today and here’s to next year.

Chris Lawson
Brand Director

*For the record, this does not in my opinion include Broken Strings.

I like the new blog style. That must come as a tremendous relief.

Hrm. The new layout takes a little getting used to (I’m like, “whoa, where am I?”) and apart from being too striking, I like it.

    Oh, and happy birthday!

Not sure about the dodgy wallpaper… does seem to shout rock & roll to me :-).

Happy birthday to everyone at OGS. I remember walking into reception as the chaos of the name change was happening all around the station (did you ever find out who leaked it to the press the evening before?). I expected to be turned away as it such a crazy day for everyone there but Clive still agreed to be interviewed on what must have been a very important day for him and everyone else. I will always remember that day as it was a step out of my normal daily life. Cheers everyone!!!

Love the invention of innovation @ Absolute… Clive D is deffo off the wall and kickin’ ass with the vision… So what about turning the tables on things, Kerrang! was a mag that became radio, so was NME, XFM had X-RAy… So what about an Absolute Magazine… but Digital… Utilising turnpage technology… subscibed or free! but with the best of both worlds… Don’t just dribble, Dabble!… Mail me for some examples & tell Clive i said Hi… Jj…
