Absolute Radio – One Year On by Charlotte Burgess

One of the wonderful things about growing one year older is that it invites you to reflect upon what you have achieved over the course of that year. Many may face this period with apprehension, as they struggle to compound the milestones that complete the block. However, the difference with a brand is that you have most of your activity documented in some form or other. Therefore, when you begin to piece the jigsaw together you are left with a tapestry rather like the one below.

Brand

In our first year, we’ve won four Sony Awards, hosted more than 100 live music sessions, and broadcast live from the Isle of Wight, V Festival and Hard Rock Calling. We’ve brought listeners sets from Blur, Elbow, Kings of Leon, signed Dave Gorman and Frank Skinner, and even had Madness perform at our birthday party in the middle of Regent’s Street. And those are only the highlights.

So whilst we may only be one year old, we think we’ve achieved a hell of a lot in that time. And we shall look forward to the future with ambition and zeal, hoping that our achievements will be like wrinkles, and increase with age.

I guess it’s not a cost effective idea to re-name the station every year. It would be fun though. Congrats on a helluva year!

My favourite event from the year was the Bank Holiday Weekend No Repeat Guarantee. Over 1000 different songs played across four days! Great stuff. I hope there are more weekends like this on Absolute Radio.
