For our first birthday, we were going to get a cake and put a big candle in the middle of it to celebrate. Then we remembered that we were a radio station which has live, guitar-based music at its core. So we decided to set an electric guitar alight instead. You might have seen footage of this on the Piccadilly screens over the last few days. If not, I’ve posted them here for you to see at leisure. We thought it looked fantastic, so you may be seeing a bit more of it over the course of our six week birthday celebrations.

For those of you that know us though, you realise that we are about so much more than live music alone. We recognise how important it is to have variety in the songs we play, especially for those of you who listen to us throughout the work day. We don’t overkill our fantastic music selection, which is why we have introduced our No Repeat Guarantee. It might not be a new feature of ours, but we still think it’s worth shouting about. We treated ourselves to a bus side campaign for our birthday, so as you are roaming around London you may spot them and remember our promise to you.

But of course you can’t have a birthday without a cake. We ordered a life size chocolate cake made in the shape of an electric guitar for our staff party.

And we ate it all.
