The First Hour on dabbl by Anthony Abbott

Last night saw another landmark event to come out of One Golden Square during Absolute Radio’s first birthday month… and I’m not even talking about Florence + the Machine’s fantastic Absolute Radio Session at Abbey Road.

At 7.00pm, the UK’s newest radio station took to the online airwaves, and on DAB digital radio in London.

Absolute Radio’s very own music programming expert, Tim Vernon, tells me that dabbl listeners (dabblrs?) couldn’t have picked a better hour of music to kick things off with. He was very impressed, so give yourself a pat on the back if you voted for one of these songs! A few of us who were still in the office at 7 o’clock listened on with pride, and a glass of bubbly, as the first song came on. Here’s the list:

Livin’ On A Prayer (Zurich 2000)
Bon Jovi

Grounds For Divorce (V Festival 2009)
Elbow

22 (V Festival 2009)
Lily Allen

American Idiot (Abbey Road 2009)
Green Day

Comfortably Numb (Berlin 1990)
Pink Floyd

Come As You Are (New York 1993)
Nirvana

Best Of You (Los Angeles 2006)
Foo Fighters

Foxy Lady (Isle Of Wight 1970)
Jimi Hendrix

Clocks (Isle Of Wight 2006)
Coldplay

Born To Run (London 1975)
Bruce Springsteen

Chelsea Dagger (V Festival 2007)
The Fratellis

So, that was hour one, day one of dabbl. The listeners voted and, love it or hate it, Bon Jovi’s ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’ will go down in radio history as being the first song played on dabbl. The beauty is, you can influence how things go from tonight. Start voting now, as anything you vote for during the day will count towards that first hour from 7pm. dabbl is on-air, playing the songs you have voted for, every day from 7pm-6am. If you missed it last night, you can get a taste of how dabbl sounds on the website now. If you voted and listened last night, tell us what you think of dabbl so far.

Go on, have a little dabbl.

If you’re interested, Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer” has never been used as a first song before.

There’s a list of all ‘first songs’ if you’re interested right… here: http://www.mediauk.com/article/32692/first-tracks-played-on-radio-stations – including the first song played on Absolute Radio.
