Everyone likes a pat on the back after a year of hard work, and newsreaders are no exception. After an extremely busy period of news and sport in 2009, The Absolute Radio Newsteam has won praise at a new set of industry awards. The “Talkies” have been created by media consultant Justin Kings to recognise the best in UK news and talk radio, and Absolute Radio has been singled-out in three categories:

Best Radio News: coverage of the British troops withdrawal from Iraq, Obama’s inauguration in Washington and the G20 protests in London.

Multi-media Award: Pioneering the use of Audioboo to report from festivals and events during the Summer of 2009.

Blooper of the Year: Hardly worthy of an award (!) but a coughing fit live on-air during the Christian O’Connell Breakfast Show makes it into third place.

Well done to the whole team.
