Sarah Champion

Sometimes it is with heavy heart and great regret that we announce someone’s departure. Sometimes it is clearly an opportunity that can’t be missed and we wave people off with all of our love and best wishes. On this occasion, we’re talking very much about the latter.

After more than 4 years at Golden Square and after presenting almost every show on the schedule, Sarah Champion is heading off to try her luck in LA with her ‘other half’ Lee. She’s got an agent over there and is moving over for a few months to see whether she can crack LA LA land. You don’t need me to tell you about Sarah’s professionalism both on and off-air, you’ve heard the shows and been at the events she’s hosted, such as Rock Trivia. For many of us, it’s been at festivals where we’ve really seen Sarah at her best. She’s done hundreds of interviews and will be remembered for her abilities as a journalist and also for making wellies look like the ultimate fashion accessory… she has certainly proved to be a hit with many of our male listeners (if you look at the webcam stats!).

Sarah has told me that if it doesn’t work out, in the words of California’s Governor ‘I’ll be back’. I’m sure you’ll agree they’d be stupid to turn her down. But, if she does return sooner than expected, we look forward to seeing her at Golden Square again.

I’m sure there’ll be some form of beverage consumption to be had between now and the middle of January, but feel free to send her an ultra-festive message of congratulation.

Paul

You are the only reason i listen to that radio station. Well, you, and whenever they play Simple Minds of course. I really wish you the best of luck. If they know what’s good for them, they’ll BEG you to come back and offer you millions. O’Connell doesn’t need all that cash. They should give you some of that. You made him famous.
You are the best damn female presenter in the country, and UK radio’s massive loss is US televisions massive gain. (And Ryan Seacrest’s loss – we can’t forget that)
I KNOW you are going to make it.

Sarah I’ve been a big fan since the days of Hertbeat FM! Hard to believe you’re going from turning on the christmas lights in Welwyn Garden City to the Hollywood Hills! I know you mentioned working for Vh1 in LA so wish you all the best of success with that, don’t forget us when you’re rich and famous!

As a child, I always remember being shocked by the disconnect bewteen a radio personality in person and the voice.
That era has ended with the advent of the webcam. The era of the face for radio is over (with one exception which I won’t mention).

Sarah represents the future of the medium, a talented artist who is comfortable both in a radio studio as well as on a film set.
As with other professions, no one will be a DJ until they croak. You have to be multi-faceted. That is the new norm.

As a listener, I am sad that she is leaving Absolute Radio. But on a personal level, I can only wish her the best.

Good luck from new yawk, Sarah!
