Some Exciting News For Football Fans!

Absolute Radio has won the rights to broadcast Barclays Premier League football commentary as part of a three year deal that kicks off in August.

This means we will be bringing listeners live action from Barclays Premier League football matches every Saturday afternoon and here’s the really clever bit…

Listeners will be given the choice between two shows on Absolute Radio on a Saturday afternoon, the new Barclays Premier League commentary or Rock n Roll Football – a mix of music and the scores as the station splits its frequency putting listeners in control of what they listen to.

On 1215AM Absolute Radio will air the brand new Barclays Premier League commentary show whilst the station’s output on 105.8FM will continue to broadcast Rock ‘n’ Roll Football. Both shows will be available on DAB and online at www.absoluteradio.co.uk.

The news comes on the back of our recent announcement that Absolute Radio is reuniting Baddiel and Skinner for a series of exclusive broadcasts and podcasts from the World Cup in South Africa and we will be announcing talent to front the new football commentary shows in coming weeks.

It’s coming home, it’s coming home, it’s coming, football’s coming home…

Congratulations to all concerned. This will certainly make for interesting listening on Saturday afternoons. Whilst this is an exciting development for Absolute Radio, I am also disappointed as a listener. Absolute Radio is not on DAB in Northern Ireland which means that if I am out driving in my car on a Saturday afternoon I will be limited to listening to 1215AM. Of course if I am at home I will have the choice of listening via Freeview or my computer.

Congratulations from me as well. My football knowledge is limited though I’ve learnt a lot about John Terry in recent weeks.

I’m wondering how this “split broadcast” will work on the smartphones.
