Absolute 80s Becomes a National Station and Absolute Radio 90’s Launches

Today we have two key announcements – Absolute 80s is set to become a national station and we are also launching a brand new radio station  – please welcome: Absolute Radio 90’s!

Due to the huge early success and popularity of Absolute 80s with this week’s RAJAR figures, showing that the station already has 264,000 listeners, we’ve decided to take the station national on DAB (Digital One), from 10am 14th May. It will also continue to stream nationwide online, on Sky, Freeview, Freesat and its many other mobile platforms.

As the name may suggest, Absolute Radio 90’s the new station will be dedicated to music from the 90’s with a playlist that stretches from Oasis, Blur Texas, Lenny Kravitz, Beautiful South, Sheryl Crow and KLF. We’re all old enough to remember it the first time round (some more so than others!) and we believe that there’s a real niche in the market to roll out a format which has worked so well for us with Absolute 80s with the Absolute Radio 90’s proposition. Absolute Radio 90’s will launch on DAB in London in late June.

The expansion of Absolute 80s and the launch of Absolute Radio 90’s mark important moves for the business providing significant added commercial opportunities for brand partners and increasing the network’s portfolio of brands – we are now the only group to have two national services on Digital One. This is yet another strong indication of the commitment of our parent company, Times of India to building the Absolute Radio brand.

Now, I will most certainly have to engage staff to help me listen to everything. Continued success with all your ventures.

I am disappointed that Absolute 80′s does not appear to be available on DAB or Freeview in Northern Ireland. This means that the station is not available across the UK as stated on air.

When you talk about the UK or United Kingdom, you are referring to England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Great Britain or GB refers to England, Scotland and Wales.

David, Absolute 80s is available on Sky, Freesat, Virgin Media and the internet in Northern Ireland.

Unfortunately, Digital One is not currently licenced to broadcast in Northern Ireland – something we hope will change in the future following new legislation passed into law as part of the recent Digital Economy Act.

And we’re aware that not every area of England, Wales or Scotland is able to receive DAB signals, but it is available to between 80% and 85% of the UK population.

Note too that Absolute 80s isn’t currently available on Freeview. But we’re always looking at ways to increase our coverage of all our services.

Really enjoying Absolute 80′s but can you just increase the play list slightly. Why are the same few records played by the same bands when we all know they had more hits
