In case you missed it, Apple launched it’s latest iPhone yesterday. Like all new Apple device launches of late, the iPhone 4 saw queues of customers outside O2 and Apple stores across the country.
The iPhone4 is powered by the latest Apple OS, iOS4, which is also available for the 3G and 3GS. iOS4 launched last week and as expected is the main topic of conversation in social media circles.
One of the big advantages of the new iOS4 is background streaming (available on 3GS and 4), which allows applications such as the Absolute Radio app to run in the background of other applications. In simple terms this means that while you’re browsing the web, sending/receiving a text, writing/checking your emails or playing a game on your iPhone, you can continuing listening to your favourite shows on Absolute Radio without interruption!
Over the past 12 months our mobile streaming hours have seen phenomenal growth and with the introduction of this background streaming feature, we’re expecting even more hours from iPhone owners. Radio has always been thought of as a background medium, something you can listen to while engaging in other activities, and background streaming will allow just this, listening to audio while using your smartphone for other activities.
The One Golden Square Labs team are busy working on a final updated release of all the Absolute Radio listen live apps, which will take full advantage of iOS4 features and capabilities. All of our iPhone listen live applications will be ready for download later in July 2010, so watch this space.
Thanks to the hard work of the OGS Labs team and our friends at All In Media, we are able to show you a sneak preview of the Absolute80s app background streaming on the iPhone 3GS. Take a look at the video below.
