Absolute Radio today announced that the brand has now had more than one million downloads of its Baddiel & Skinner Absolute Radio podcasts, sponsored by Sony Ericsson Official Mobile Handset of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™. This is a huge feat since the podcasts were only released 4 weeks ago on May 24th.
In the same week the station has notched up its millionth mobile application download too with 1,000,071 mobile applications downloaded across all platforms – (a massive 29% up from April). 232,000 live listening hours were streamed via a mobile application in May. This month the station launched two new mobile applications – The Baddiel & Skinner Football Kit (£2.99 from the iTunes store) and The Baddiel & Skinner Fantasy Cup (free to online registered players of the Fantasy Cup game).
In May the Absolute Radio Network (Absolute Radio, Absolute 80s, Absolute Classic Rock and dabbl) also serviced a total of 822,000 on-demand hours via IP connected devices – 10% up from April. This on-demand figure consists of all audio and video content available online through downloaded podcasts, audio clips, live sessions and videos both on www.absoluteradio.co.uk and third party sites.
In total, The Absolute Radio Network serviced 7.12 million hours of compelling online content in May (including live online streamed hours, live mobile streamed hours and on-demand).
In May a record 1,887,000 podcasts were downloaded in the month. These podcast downloads equate to 714,000 hours of audio and 25,000 hours of video – 739,000 in total, up 66% from April. The station has recently launched a new Podcast Directory online at www.absoluteradio.co.uk/podcasts to host the station’s huge on demand content of over 130 podcast channels and over 10,000 podcast episodes.
On-demand hours represent a huge growth area for the brand opening content up to a far wider online audience. The content has also become an attractive commercial proposition for the stations advertisers and this new measure of engagement allows the station to give greater insight into how listeners hear it’s output via the internet providing further accountability for customers and stakeholders.
The Absolute Radio Network streamed 6.3 million hours of live audio in May. Absolute Radio is still the only commercial UK station to release its streamed or on demand listening hours data and make this information public. We release this monthly information to provide greater accountability for our commercial partners. Monthly figures for the network are available from the One Golden Square blog onegoldensquare.com/stats/.
Absolute Radio is working hard across the industry to ensure it provides consistent figures. The statistics are gathered using data from streams in a variety of formats with actual listening data collected from multiple computers or internet radio devices. Data is also collected from cookies removed from PCs.
