I’m often asked what DJs and radio shows do I like and rate. Over the last few years there has been one show thats given me more happy hours spent grinning and laughing at their podcasts than any other. It has cheered me up and inspired me to push myself and my show into new areas of creativity and invention.
That show is Hamish and Andy and they do a very popular syndicated drive time show across Australia. Two hugely talented and funny comedians who have been best mates since teenagers. The show is the highest-rating radio series in Australian history, with approximately two million listeners daily. You cannot help but love a show that invented a brand new crisp ‘The People’s Chip’ and tried to win a bull with listeners help from an Agricultural Magazine. They’ve done shows from the Olympics, Afghanastan and over the last two weeks Ireland and the UK.
They will become big stars I’m sure over here too and they made a great appearance on Graham Norton’s show last night.
I’m pleased to say they will be covering my Sunday evening show ‘Choice Cuts’ in July whilst I’m on holiday. They will fit right in on Absolute Radio where comedians Frank Skinner and Dave Gorman have made real homes for themselves. I can think of no other commercial radio station that is such an atractive and fertile ground right now for funny people.
One of the many things I love about Hamish and Andy (apart from the fact they are very very funny) is that the show breaks many rules and conventions and is beautifully and playfully subversive as all the best shows are. You would be doing yourselves a favour to check out their podcasts on itunes.
They came in on Friday’[s breakfast show and just knocked it out of the park! Walking straight into the hall of fame of great guests. These boys are just so funny and quick and annoyingly good looking! Both Maggie and Tumshie were swooning from the gallery whilst they were on. If you missed them then watch this…
