We were all confident Baddiel & Skinner’s Absolute Radio Podcasts with Sony Ericsson would be a success. I don’t think any of us would have thought we’d smash the one million download mark in just 12 podcasts.

The World Cup podcast market is incredibly crowded this year with at least 20 different podcasts vying for the keen ears of football fans. With this in mind we’re quietly blowing our own vuvuvzela as David and Frank streak past the million mark – Absolute Radio’s fastest growing podcast ever. Since the first podcast on the 24th of May they’ve topped three iTunes charts and attracted a 4.5 star out of 5 star rating – something remarkable given the choice of content available and as the podcast listener becomes (rightly) more discerning in their tastes and demands.

The boys have recorded their podcasts live on stage at the Lyric theatre, in the backs of cars, in hotel rooms and as they sit waiting for games to start. They’ve played ukuleles and vuvuzelas and even attracted another podcaster as a guest, as Alan Davies chatted with them in the episode which was launched this morning. The podcasts are available at 6am each morning so listeners can enjoy them on the morning commute, but they’re repeated on-air at 6pm in the evenings for anyone who doesn’t have online access. We’ve also podcast their live shows and created vodcasts of ‘animated Frank & Dave’.

The next podcast comes on Saturday morning ahead of the Germany game and you’ll be able to get their reaction to England’s win (fingers crossed) on Monday morning at 6am as well as hearing them with Christian at 8.10am on the breakfast show.
