Absolute Radio 90s UK – by Tony Moorey

The UK’s Only 90s Radio Station is just two months old, but in that time has already built up a loyal and often vocal fan-base. The two most frequently asked questions are:

  • ‘Can more songs be added to the playlist?’
  • ‘Will I be able to listen on DAB where I live?’

The answer to question 1 is yes!  We are constantly evolving the sound of the station, the list of songs we play and when and where they are played.  The answer to question 2 for most areas of the country has unfortunately been ‘not at the moment’. But we are now delighted to announce that for a trial period of 5 weeks, Absolute Radio 90s will be on DAB right across Britain.

From 10am on Wednesday the whole country can join our 90s party, just look for “Abs Radio 90s UK” or “Abs90sUK” on your DAB digital radio. If you can’t find it, you may need to select the auto-tune, re-tune or re-scan function in your radio’s menu.

We are celebrating with a 90s weekend on Absolute Radio this Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday. We will be giving away DAB digital radios and every hour through the day will start off with 5 classic 90s tracks.

If you can’t wait for your 90s fix, you can tune in across the country now on Sky channel 0203 or online.

This is great news, that you will be on DAB radio all over the UK. Just wish it was for good and not only a 5 week trial period.

Also also news about Freesat or not? I know your on the Sky EPG, but that does not really help, since I have Freesat.

If it is successful after 5 weeks will it stay nationally on DAB? please! I live in the Midlands and would love to listen.

Will this be achieved by using the 80k mono slot currently used by Absolute Radio Extra (ARX)? I assume ARX will then become a part-time station (borrowing capacity from the other three stations on Saturday afternoons and Sunday evenings)?

    Gordon,
Glad you like the news. The 90s’ nationwide trial is an example of our policy to allow our services to be listened to on as many platforms in as many areas as possible. At the moment there are no immediate plans to add 90s to Freesat, but we never say never and are eager to see how 90s is received across the country.
    Thanks
    T

    Hi Mark, you’re spot on.

Thomas, as this is a trial we will be keeping a very close eye on how successful it is, both in terms of feedback and of course, listening figures.

    Cheers

Sadly, this won’t be available on DAB in Northern Ireland. As a Northern Ireland listener to Absolute Radio I feel very left out.

best radio station EVER has got to stay or the radio will never be listened to again.

Will the audio quality ever get better? 64k mono isn’t exactly brilliant.
