When Absolute Radio won exclusive Barclays Premier League commentary rights, our aim was that our football coverage would live beyond Saturday afternoons and the Rock ‘N’ Roll football programme itself, living within the digital sphere and complementing our growing reputation as commercial radio’s most digitally innovative brand.
The brief was clear – take a shedload of raw football data and make it multi-functional, understandable, fit for purpose and then present it in an attractive and user-friendly way. And all of this in as close to real-time as possible.
To achieve this, we’ve had to squeeze every process to run as efficiently as possible. We can receive each data item from Press Association, process it, database it for future reference, update our API and have it live on the website in our Match Day Centre and for use by our Live Scores apps, including live score notifications, our iAd and Wrighty’s football quiz within a fraction of a second.
Not only do we now have a powerful API that can help us deliver live football scores to almost any platform, but we’ve also earned ourselves a nomination for the Technical Innovation Award at Radio Academy TechCon 2011. Fingers crossed!
