Team GB and Paralympic GB 2012 medallists will be quizzed by legendary and world record holding athlete Colin Jackson at a unique question and answer session entitled ‘The Olympians’ at this year’s Radio Festival which is being chaired by Absolute Radio’s Clive Dickens.
The session will feature four London 2012 medal-winning panellists: Luke Campbell, who won gold for boxing in the Bantam Division; Tim Baillie and teammate Etienne Stott, who won gold in the Men’s Canoe Slalom; and cyclist Jody Cundy who triumphed in the Men’s Individual Pursuit adding bronze to his 23 medal haul from a former swimming career, making him one of the most successful Paralympians in the UK.
Colin Jackson will interview the sports stars and discuss how radio covered the Olympics and Paralympics from both a local and national level and what radio can do as athletes begin to prepare for the next Games in Rio De Janeiro in 2016.
The panel will discuss how less high-profile disciplines need to ‘fight’ for media attention in order to continue to raise awareness when the spotlight of an Olympic or Paralympic Games moves away. Can these sports ever compete with the most popular sports like football, cricket and rugby, which are extensively covered by all media outlets?
The session will also provide delegates with a memorable insight into the sacrifices endured and preparation undertaken by athletes in order to make it to the top of their profession.
Tickets for the Radio Festival, which runs from 12th – 14th November, can still be purchased here.
