Happy New Year from everyone at Absolute Radio!

Happy New Year everyone, what a year it’s been for Absolute Radio!

2012 saw us named Commercial Radio Station of the Year at the prestigious Arqiva Awards, hosted by our very own Christian O’Connell. Ronnie Wood repeated his amazing success from last year by picking up not one but TWO of the coveted prizes, the Specialist Programme Award and the Best Feature Award for his show on Absolute Radio.

We also achieved a twelve year record RAJAR high in audience figures in 2012 and were named  the Number One Commercial Brand among 15+ Males in London. Our decade stations also achieved great success, with Absolute Radio 60s, Absolute Radio 70s, and Absolute Radio 90s all posting record high audiences.

2012 will forever been remembered for the amazing summer of sport we all enjoyed. Our live Premier League commentator Jim Proudfoot did a sterling job for us covering all of England and Ireland’s Euro 2012 games, live from Poland and Ukraine. And then of course, it was the big one, the London Olympics!

We followed and celebrated the success of Team GB and ParalympicsGB from start to finish. The likes of Snow Patrol, Stereophonics and Duran Duran kicked things off at the BT London Live Opening Ceremony Celebration Concert in Hyde Park.

We brought you twenty live shows, presented by Johnny Vaughan from the iconic location throughout the Olympics and eight from Trafalgar Square during the Paralympics and interviewed some of the biggest names to win Gold at both events, including Bradley Wiggins, Jessica Ennis, Jonnie Peacock and Peter Wilson.

Then Blur, The Specials and New Order helped draw the curtain on a fantastic summer of sport at the BT London Live Closing Ceremony Celebration Concert. And we decided to celebrate the success of our amazing athletes with a day of special music, programmes and live outside broadcasts to coincide with their well deserved parade through London.

Other highlights for us from 2012, include one of the best gigs we’ve ever seen, the brilliant Kasabian’s secret Soho performance at The Box for Absolute Radio, Coldplay’s stunning Hometime Special, live from the Emirates and of course we were also at the Isle of Wight Festival and Hard Rock Calling again this year.

Thanks to everyone for all your hard work – here’s to another successful year, in 2013!
