One Third of New Cars Now Have Digital Radio as Standard

Digital Radio UK have shown further evidence of the progress being made on digital radio by the vehicle industry and reflects the impact of the commitments made by major manufacturers on the transition fully to digital.

New data about DAB radio in cars and we are happy to report that a new milestone has been reached this week. One third of all new cars (33.3%) in the last quarter of 2012 now come with digital radio as standard, according to CAP/SMMT. This means more and more drivers are able to tune into Absolute Radio and others in crystal clear DAB quality.

The figures show a healthy increase with 25.5% of new cars being equipped with digital radios in Quarter 3 in 2012, up from 20.8% in Quarter four 2011 and 7.5% in Quarter four 2010.

In a strong year for UK car sales, with sales up 5.3% up year on year, 8 out of the top 10 car brands sold in 2012 now offer digital radio as standard or have plans to do so in 2013:
