Congratulations to Duncan Amey, winner of the inaugural Absolute Star award and seen here being presented with this rather large (and you got to admit, pretty impressive) cup! Duncan will retain the cup until he presents it to the next Absolute Star to be announced at the next staff meeting in May.
In addition to the cup, Duncan gets a £100 prize* and bragging rights for about 6 weeks.
22 nominations were received by the judging panel (Adam Bowie, Andrew Bailey, Rowan Link and myself) for the award covering 18 staff members. The panel was particularly impressed by the multiple nominations for Duncan which set out his consistent delivery of projects, time after time, to seemingly impossible deadlines, his willingness to share knowledge both within and outside his own department and his leadership and example during a tough few months which saw a reorganisation of his department. All of which are the epitome of the Absolute Radio brand values.
And let’s face it, anyone deserves an award if they’re suddenly told there’s a reorganisation and they have to report into Paul Brown (Are we ok to leave this in? – Ed).
So well done Duncan and everyone start thinking now about who you want to nominate to be the next Absolute Star.

This morning Christian O’Connell invited listeners who drive vans to come to Absolute Radio’s home in London’s Golden Square to collect a free PURE Highway DAB in-car radio.
There were 100 radios on offer and we managed to bring Soho to a standstill as the vans converged on the square at 9am. Christian and Richie left the warmth of the studio to hand out the radios. The great van giveaway came a year after the OC did the same for black cab drivers – who will be next?
