Digital Radio Boost for Londoners

It just got a lot easier to listen to one of Absolute Radio’s digital services in London.

Today saw Olympic gold medal winner Dame Kelly Holmes scale the BT Tower to switch on one of four new digital radio transmitters. Together they will give a stronger digital signal to over 9 million listeners meaning that Absolute Radio’s digital services are now available to an additional one million Londoners for the first time.

Almost half  (48.3%) of Londoners own a DAB digital radio and over 55% of London listeners listen on a digital platform every week – and there’s good news if you want to listen to Absolute Radio in your car too: the boost in signal strength means that 99% of the London road network within the M25 now enjoys a robust digital radio signal. The latest figures show that listening to digital radio in-car is now more popular than ever and the number of cars fitted with digital radio as standard more than doubled over the past year to nearly a quarter (23%).

This comes just ahead of the Olympics and means even more Londoners will be able to enjoy Absolute Radio’s latest signing Johnny Vaughan. Johnny is hosting a daily show throughout The Games featuring interviews with comedians, presenters and Olympians with laugh out loud features on all the big events, the obscure sports, plus all of the day’s talking points on and off the track. All accompanied by exclusive live music performances to celebrate the arrival of the ‘greatest show on earth’.
