We’re launching our Rock ‘N’ Roll Football Live Scores app for the Android market place. The app gives real-time access to the latest football scores and live commentary.
The new app will feature live, dynamic official data for all Premier League matches including live scores and match events, live team line-ups and team changes, live performance statistics, live text commentary and live league tables.
It enables the listener to tune in live to the station’s Premier League commentary on Absolute Radio extra as well as Rock ‘N’ Roll Football with Russ Williams on Absolute Radio. The user can also personalise the app by choosing their favourite Premier League team.
This is Absolute Radio’s seventh application launched into Google’s Android market place.
Our listeners can’t get enough of listening to Absolute Radio via their smart phones – in November 2010, Absolute Radio recorded its highest ever figures for mobile listening ever with 353,000 hours of audio streamed via mobile, up a staggering 305% year-on-year and accounting for almost 4% of the networks’ streamed hours compared to just 1% the year before.

Closing Date: Friday, 25 March 2011
Someone said to me last week, how long have you been Absolute Radio? I reminded them it has only been just over 2 years (27 months) to which they seemed surprised as apparently ‘It seems a lot longer’. I am hoping that was a good thing!
Anyway it prompted me to share some recent data about our trajectory and momentum as a brand. I don’t mean RAJAR, on this occasion I am going to refer to perceptual images of the all important London Market and our London audience.
As you can see on the chart below we are making strong progress on our brand images but still have a way to go. This is because brand images are like icebergs, slow to form and slow to dissipate.

Staying with the iceberg metaphor, the name and visual stimulus are the part of the iceberg that’s above the water line. Yes, they’re important from a branding perspective, but they aren’t critical to building your brand image. What is critical exists below the water line – things like the benefit, the benefit delivered and the thoughts and feelings that are evoked among our listeners.
2011 is looking like another very exciting year for Absolute Radio

The playlist is out now.

Elbow – Open Arms (07/03/11)
On an album of fantastic songs (perhaps their finest?!) this soon-to-be live favourite provides the most anthemic refrain.
Cage The Elephant – Shake Me Down (13/03/11)
Single from the Kentucky band’s 2nd album ‘Thank You, Happy Birthday’ has been a big hit in the States.
Sick Puppies – Maybe (28/03/11)
Another track doing well over the pond, this is from an Australian trio based in the U.S.
Panic! At The Disco – The Ballad of Mona Lisa (28/03/11)
1st single from the Las Vegas band’s 3rd album ‘Vices and Virtues’.
Strokes – Under Cover of Darkness (21/03/11)
The New Yorkers return with 4th album ‘Angles’ – their first for 5 years.
Radiohead – Lotus Flower (18/02/11)
The video for this track from the ‘The King of Limbs’, featuring Mr Yorke dancing, has been a phenomenon online. XL Records issue the album in shops at the end of the month.

The lovely people in our Marketing department on the 1st floor at One Golden Square have secured a homepage takeover of the UK MSN website for our Faces For Radio Campaign. The online promotion features a banner ad of the main poster with a hyperlink, plus there is a video advert featuring our Faces For Radio front men Frank Skinner, Christian O’Connell & Dave Gorman. When you hover over the guys with your mouse there is an option to listen in live to their shows and if they’re not on the air at that time then a link appears to listen to their podcasts. Clever ey!
Check it out here http://uk.msn.com/
The UK MSN homepage takeover compliments a fully integrated Marketing Strategy for the Faces For Radio Campaign with Frank, Christian and Dave showing off their ugly mugs all over London on Billboards and Buses.
We’re also giving listeners the chance to win £5,000 by entering our Facebook Faces For Radio Competition. To enter you must send us pictures of yourself looking a little worse for wear – pulling your best ‘Face For Radio’ to win the cash
