This year’s Sony Radio Academy Awards nominations are out, and the non-BBC sector is continuing to close the gap on the Corporation, who dropped from 94 nominations in 2010 to 88 in 2012, while over the same period the rest of the industry grew from 73 to 77 nods.
Absolute Radio had another barnstorming round of nominations, netting 10 this year. BBC Radio 1 also received 10, and BBC Radio 2 got 15. Meanwhile, Capital received one nomination, Heart achieved three, Talksport were nominated in five categories, and Kiss got four.
Among breakfast shows, Christian O’Connell was nominated in three categories, while The Chris Evans Breakfast Show on Radio 2 got nods in two categories, as did Heart Breakfast (London). Other breakfast shows received one nomination each, or none.
Well done everyone and good luck – here’s to the awards on the 14th of May!

We’ve signed Travelodge in a sponsorship deal to celebrate the hotel brand being the largest hotelier in London along with all of its great locations across the capital.
Three on-air features from April to June 2012 will be themed around music, the Queen’s Jubilee, and Sport. Each feature will give listeners the chance to win trips to London including two-night stays in a top Travelodge hotel plus activities and spending money.
The competitions will be tried and tested by our very own DJ’s – we’re sending Richie Firth and Maggie Doyle (Christian O’Connell Breakfast Show), Pete Donaldson (Absolute Radio 90s and Rock N Roll Football) and Andy Bush (afternoons on Absolute Radio) to experience event-filled weekends in London courtesy of Travelodge. Well, it’s a hard job but somebody’s got to do it?!
Listeners will then have the chance to win that very weekend experienced by the presenter. Prizes will include two night stays in a Travelodge hotel plus activities such as the London Thames Speed Boat experience, Horse Riding in Hyde Park and London Eye and London Aquarium.

Soundgarden – Live To Rise

You Me At Six – No One Does It Better
The band previously played one of our Hard Rock Sessions on London’s Hard Rock Cafe last year and we playlisted their previous songs ‘Bite My Tongue’ as well as ‘Loverboy’. The band recently finished a sold-out tour in March and have also been confirmed as headlining the second stage at this year’s Download Festival on Saturday June 9th.
Fun move up to A-list.
Florence And The Machine move up to B-list.

We’ve sealed a sponsorship deal with Sonos to sit across the Absolute Radio Geoff Lloyd Hometime Show in a UK radio first for the Sonos Wireless HiFi System.
You’ll hear about Sonos’s product range which offers up a radical way to stream all the music on earth wirelessly, with HiFi sound, and control the music via free, award-winning apps.
The partnership kicked off with a Sonos Treasure Hunt promotion which saw Geoff wirelessly directing Annabel to different rooms and studios within the confines of the Absolute Radio HQ at One Golden Square.
Annabel picked up clues along the way from each room and callers answered questions for their chance to win top-of-the-range Sonos products. The more questions the caller answered correctly, the more Sonos prizes they won.
