Absolute Radio Star – The Trophy Is Passed On to Andrew Ryan

Award ceremonies these days are common place but none are so steeped in tradition, pomp and circumstance as the Absolute Radio Star. Nominated and judged by Absolute Radio peers, the fiercely competitive Absolute Radio Star celebrates the achievements and enduring hard work of One Golden Square staff members.

This time round the (massive) trophy was graciously passed on by previous winner Duncan Amey and awarded to the station’s well deserving Head of Legal Andrew Ryan!

Andrew has been at One Golden Square for about a year and has settled in extremely well, building up excellent relationships right across the company. He established himself as the first point of contact on legal matters., Andrew has handled numerous important legal matters in house rather than having to refer to external lawyers, most notably the sale of Golden Square Networks and (currently ongoing) negotiation of EPL rights –he was an integral part of our successful EPL bid team.

Andrew contributed significantly to our defence against the claim by Absolut Vodka of ‘trademark infringement’ and was heavily involved in negotiations for settlement of the Absolut Vodka case. And on top of all that Andrew was celebrated for the work he did on the festival contracts at exactly the same time as everything else.

Chris Goldson who headed up the judging panel for the Absolute Radio Star this time round had this to say: “I couldn’t be happier than to award Mr Ryan this enormous silver trophy. With his unending good humour and his winning, can-do attitude he really is a deserved winner!”

Artists and Search Engine Optimisation by Anthony Abbott

Content discovery via search is extremely valuable to any business, but particularly a new brand such as Absolute Radio, where a web user can be exposed to a brand for the first time via a quick search for something on Google. On Thursday we rolled out a significant update to the absoluteradio.co.uk website following an in-depth look at how we optimise our websites for natural search.

As part of this work, we have re-launched our Absolute Radio music artist pages, which are now a nicer place to be, as well as being more Google-friendly :-)

Much of what has changed – such as HTML template structure and meta data – is for Google & Co.’s eyes only, but all of the changes will result in more people discovering what’s on offer from Absolute Radio. So, here what you will notice:

• A Music dropdown menu, providing you with one-click access to our featured artists such as The Beatles, Coldplay, and Florence and The Machine.
• An all-new artists section, featuring our favourite bands, and loads more of yours. These pages include a datastream of the latest news, videos, pictures, and tour information, as well as being a useful source of biographical and discography information.
• An easy share widget added to all pages on absoluteradio.co.uk. One click to share stuff with your friends on your favourite social network, including Facebook, Google Buzz and Twitter.
• A new, simplified website footer, with a link to our site map if you want to delve deeper.
