The Absolute Radio Player allows Nokia owners to quickly and easily stream Absolute Radio, Absolute Classic Rock, Absolute 80s and dabbl on their phone – and it’s proving incredibly popular with over 100,000 downloads of the application since it launched in January!

Between the two versions of the Absolute Radio Player available on the Nokia Ovi Store (One for 3rd edition Symbian S60 handsets such as the N95 8GB, and one for 5th edition Symbian S60 handsets including the N97), over 30 individual phones are supported from the world’s biggest mobile phone manufacturer (and that includes if you’re just looking at the smart phone market)
And there’s more good news for Nokia owners – you can now get the Absolute Classic Rock Player direct from the Absolute Classic Rock website, or download the Absolute 80s Player from the Absolute 80s website. Both applications should join the Absolute Radio Player in the Nokia Ovi Store in the next few days.

RadioDNS today announced the results of its Steering Board election.
RadioDNS, you will recall, is the technology that can support applications that combine broadcast and IP technologies.
Here at One Golden Square, we’re pleased to say that Ben Matthew of OGS Labs fame, has been elected onto the steering board, alongside others from the BBC, the EBU, Global and Pure Digital amongst others. Nick Piggott (Global Radio) was elected chairperson, and James Cridland (once of these parts and now flying solo for Not At All Bad Ltd) was elected secretary.
Read and learn much more about RadioDNS at its website, or stop by their stand at the 2010 NAB Show in Las Vegas the week after next.
Back at the start of July 2009, we launched our first paid iPhone application, the Absolute Radio Live Amp as part of the Absolute Radio Summer of Live.
Combining videos, photos, event information and a live Twitter stream it brought the excitement of live music to your mobile throughout the summer festival season and beyond with the huge number of live sessions at Absolute Radio. All of that content was available for the bargain price of 59p, and thousands of people have downloaded and used the Live Amp.
Since then we’ve released several more applications, reached over 500,000 downloads, and developed applications for Android, Nokia and BlackBerry phones in addition to more applications for the iPhone, and we’ve got plenty more to come this year.
But that’s meant that we’ve had to look long and hard at the Live Amp. It was a good application when it was released, and still works well today, but eight months is a long time in the mobile app world. In order to update and release a Live Amp which would build on the lessons of the first application, offer great value, and effectively deliver the live experience to your mobile will take some time.
So as a result, we’ve taken the decision to remove the Absolute Radio Live Amp for the present time, until a new live music application is available in the future. In the meantime you can keep up with the current range of Absolute Radio mobile applications, and all the latest news on our new projects at www.absoluteradio.co.uk/mobile.

Today brings some really exciting news about a new name joining our roster of talented broadcasters.
Two days ago we re-launched Absolute Classic Rock as the Home of the Great British Guarantee, playing an amazing mix of music with tracks from legendary British artists every hour. And if you have a station playing legendary British rock music, who better to host a weekly show than an undisputed legend from one of the biggest British bands of all time?
None are more iconic than The Rolling Stones and from next week Ronnie Wood will be bringing the songs to life in The Ronnie Wood Show. The show will be produced by independent production company Somethin’ Else and will be full of stories from Ronnie’s life with the Stones and his passion for music. He’ll be choosing some classic tracks and letting us in on some wonderful experiences from his time on tours and in recording sessions.
The Ronnie Wood Show will premier on Absolute Radio Classic Rock every Friday at 6pm, with a repeat straight after Leona’s Absolute Classic Rock Party, networked on both Absolute Radio and Absolute Classic Rock on Saturdays at 10pm. The show will also be syndicated in Japan and Canada.
You can read more about it and listen to a taste of the show when Ronnie talks about living with Jimi Hendrix here: http://absoluteclassicrock.co.uk/onair/wood/
