On Wednesday, Absolute Radio played host to The BBC’s Audio & Music interactive department, the team that look after all web activity, red button and social networks for the BBC radio stations, music programmes on the TV and all the big annual events including The Proms, Glastonbury and so on.
This team meets four times a year to share ideas, case studies and war stories. The main meeting takes place at Broadcasting House, however for the first time, yesterday’s meeting saw members of the department take part in ‘break-out’ sessions outside of the BBC to discuss, learn and share views on innovation with partners and friends.
Absolute Radio’s One Golden Square Labs team were one of the chosen few (along with others such as Media Trust, The Telegraph and Somethin’ Else) asked to host a break-out session and seeing as ‘innovation’ is our middle name, we were really excited about having them over to the lab.

Some of the topics discussed were Absolute80s, dabbl, Apple Nano tagging and CompareMyRadio, which we hope all enjoyed – I saw on twitter that someone particularly liked the video demo!
The BBC Audio & Music interactive department used Twitter and live blogging to share what they were learning and used the hashtag #amint for others to follow the day.
“This quarter we launched our Faces for Radio marketing creative focused on our 7 day breakfast offering; Frank Skinner, Dave Gorman and Christian O’Connell – and Breakfast is up. We undertook a successful World Cup campaign fronted by Baddiel & Skinner and next quarter we kick-off our Barclays Premier League coverage with Rock ‘N’ Roll Football.” said Clive Dickens, Chief Operating Officer at Absolute Radio. “Digitally – Absolute 80s and Absolute Classic Rock continue to perform very strongly – next quarter Absolute Radio 90s and Absolute Radio extra will add to this even more.”
We recently launched Rock ‘N’ Roll Fantasy Football with Sky Sports, giving you the chance to pick your ultimate team for this season’s Barclays Premier League. There’s £20,000 for the overall winner and thanks to Sky Sports there are also Manager of the Month prizes of a year’s Sky+HD.
With so much at stake it’s no wonder everyone is looking for a way to get the upper hand. So from today, you’ll be able to play the game anywhere you want with the free Rock ‘N’ Roll Fantasy Football iPhone application.
You’ll need to sign up to play for free on the Absolute Radio website, but after that you can control every element of your team on your phone, including checking your rankings in the overall game leaderboard, monthly leaderboards and your own private leagues. See the latest Barclays Premier League results and forthcoming fixtures, keep an eye on all of your player stats (and transfer them if they’re not performing), and view all the league and player data in both simple and expanded views.
And when you’re not tinkering with your team you’ll be able to listen, in app, to live and exclusive Barclays Premier League football commentary on Absolute Radio extra during Rock ‘N’ Roll Football with Ian Wright, Jim Proudfoot and Russ Williams. As well as the Rock ‘N’ Roll Sports podcast.
You can download the Rock ‘N’ Roll Fantasy Football app (iTunes link) from the iTunes app store now.

Absolute Radio was privileged to not only be invited to attend a Nokia Ovi Developers event in London yesterday, but to also present on our growth and success with digital audio content.
We’re dedicated to allowing as many people as possible to access our content, regardless of which device they currently own, and as a result, our mobile applications are currently available on the four main mobile platforms, including Nokia handsets.
The presentation is quite succinct – mainly because the event was focused around information and demonstrations of the forthcoming Nokia N8 handset, which definitely has some interesting features and functionality. Features include a 12 Megapixel camera, HD video, and a HDMI output – which means you can watch content from your phone on your HDTV.
If you’d like to see more statistics, the Absolute Radio June Engagement Metrics have been recently released and you can see all the graphs on the Stats page.
